12 Step Retreats: Starting in 1985 I followed my sponsor, Fr Terry Richey, as he led retreats around So California, and observed the transformation taking place in myself alongside other retreatants. Terry encouraged me to lead retreats, and I fell in love with the process. Five years into sobriety, with his encouragement, I joined Al-Anon and have been active ever since. My annual retreat, encouraged by Step Ten in the Twelve & Twelve, is with fellow priests and religious every January. Marietta my wife has 30+ years in AA and Al-Anon. We’ve experienced great joy leading retreats together.

Background: Masters Degree in Divinity from Church Divinity School in Berkeley CA with forty years’ service to the Episcopal Church in Southern California and northern Nevada; Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology & Sociology from Cal State Fullerton; trained with PICO and Industrial Areas Foundation in Community Organizing; Matt Talbot Retreat Leader (#109); NA/AA/Al-Anon mixed men & women retreats; Husband, father of four adult children, grandfather to five. Recovery is the cornerstone of my vocation as a priest, as a married man, a dad, and a grandfather.

Marietta Paul

Marietta grew up in New Hampshire, apprenticed with a Master Silversmith in Birmingham UK at the age of seventeen. Returning to the U.S., she graduated UNH with an B.S. in psychology, & has worked as a goldsmith & silversmith ever since, the last twenty years in the ecclesiastical arts, what she calls ‘Holy Hardware.’ Marietta has been in recovery, both AA & Al-Anon, since 1991. She & Jeff were introduced at the Episcopal Church’s General Convention in 2012. They married January of 2014, living in Carson City NV.
